Diorama

Image
For this project I made a diorama of the State Fair. This is the first projected that I painted and really liked how it turned out. I am the proudest of the model for the seal that I created seeing how it is a little harder to made organic shapes in tinkercad.

Getting Started With 3D Printing

Image
This assignment started out relatively tame in tinker cad. The tutorials were easy to follow for the most part and I got through them pretty quickly. The real tough part for me was the printing. The first two times I tried to print the chess piece the print got unstuck while printing. I tried moving the print to a different 3D printer but the plastic got clogged. I came back to the fablab the next day to try again. The first attempt that day also ended in the base becoming unstuck, but I moved printers again and the print came out fine.

Ring

For my project I started out with three ring designs, one with a diamond, and one with an eye. For two of my rings, I put two circles next to the element and had the circles get smaller. I am happy about how this look turns out for the ring designs. One thing I would change for next time is the ring size. I made the rings way to small, and they are a little brittle as a result. The worst outcome of this assignment is that one of the rings did not print. I wonder if I put the rings too close to each other or if I just need to try and print that ring again.

3D Trend Report

The 3D Trend report shows a growing market for 3D printing. The report has a positive outlook on 3D printing seeing as the technology seems to be leading toward efficiency and accessibility. The document shows a lot of applications for prototypes and little for research. I am curious to what research for 3D printing is exactly. I was interested to find all the real-world applications for 3D printing. The report mentions aerospace, automotive, and medical. I was a little confused about some of the topics that were mentioned in the report, specifically the concept of the metal additive manufacturing market. The use of 3D printing to create food was a use of 3D printing that I was not expecting and made me curious about some of the science behind it. I was not aware that 4D printing was a thing that existed. The report describes 4D printing as a printed object that can change shape or properties.
